Final Thoughts on 2023
My final thoughts on 2023 centers around time. The time you have each day is a precious resource and one of your greatest assets.
How you decide to invest that time ripples throughout your day. Your ability to manage your time and those who you lead impacts productivity. This has a direct impact on your business performance for the month, and now as we end the year, reflects what was achieved in 2023. Ineffective time management is a roadblock from realizing your goals.
Poor time management also creates stress and frustrations, thus causing potential emotional harm. Motivation and useful energy gets stifled. Your personal time management directly affects and influences those around you.
President Dwight D. Eisenhower was the 34th President of the United States, The Supreme Allied Commander for the Allies during World War II, and the First Supreme Commander of NATO. He recognized the critical importance of making decisions daily and where he needed to focus. This led him to creating the Eisenhower Principle and what is commonly referred to as the Eisenhower Matrix.
Eisenhower prioritized tasks into 4 quadrants:
In Steven Covey’s famous book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”, the third habit is to prioritize important over urgent.
For example, an email can cause a distraction and make you feel responding is urgent. Importance is defined as contributing to your goal and your values. Urgent can also be time sensitive and therefore gets placed at the top of the to do list.

Leadership is a lifelong pursuit. There are many ways to acquire important skills; from reading, coursework, online and in person, peer to peer groups, and coaches. What is important now is to decide to build on your skills. They make a difference in your life and in your work.
